ABOUT THE STUDIO

OUR APPROACH

Our teaching is grounded in Evidence-Based Pilates, which incorporates classical Pilates and contemporary Pilates alongside ongoing research in movement science. For most clients, we work within an expansive classical practice, with adaptations drawn from physical therapy-informed Pilates where needed.

Evidence-Based Pilates favors meeting the physical goals and needs of the student, with a focus on building physical balance, physical awareness, and physical confidence in the ways best suited to each person’s learning style.

STUDIO EQUIPMENT

The studio apparatuses are a combination of Balanced Body and Stott equipment, and we use a combination of Balanced Body and classical Contrology springs.

Mat classes use Airex Pilates mats and small equipment/props from Balanced Body and Stott.

CLEANING AND SAFETY

In order to keep the studio environment safe for students, all equipment, mats, and props are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized between each class/student. We use a plant-based spray that kills 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, and fungus strains. There are two HEPA/UV air filters running 24 hours per day, which cycle the air in the studio every 15 minutes. Though masks are not currently required, KN95 masks are always available, and the instructor is happy to wear a mask at the request of students.

AMENITIES

Toiletries and sanitary items are available on request, and there are private bathrooms down the hall from the studio. Complimentary clean towels and bottled spring water are included with all mat classes and private sessions.

OWNER/INSTRUCTOR

EMILIE GRUCHOW

I originally found Pilates after sustaining a ballet injury as a teenager. I fell in love with the strength and body awareness that Pilates allowed me to bring back to the dance studio.

My first comprehensive instructor certification was completed through the Comprehensive Instructor Certification Program at The Physicalmind Institute in 2006, and my second comprehensive certification was completed through the Comprehensive Instructor Certification Program at Balanced Body in 2019. I also completed Trifecta Institute’s Trauma-Informed Pilates Certification in 2019, and continuing education courses through Polestar Pilates in 2024.

I completed my teaching apprenticeship under second-generation instructor Justine diCostanzo in 2007 in NYC.
