About the Studio

The Studio

Our Teaching

Our teaching methodology is grounded in Classical and Contemporary Pilates. For most clients, we work within an expansive Classical choreography (including archival Pilates exercises) with adaptations drawn from physical therapy-informed Pilates.

Studio Apparatuses

The studio apparatuses are a combination of Balanced Body and Stott equipment, and we use Balanced Body springs.

Owner &
Certified Instructor

Emilie Gruchow

I originally found Pilates after sustaining a ballet injury as a teenager. I fell in love with the core strength and body awareness that Pilates allowed me to bring back to the dance studio.

Education

I completed my first 500-hour Matwork and Apparatus Comprehensive Instructor Certification through The Physicalmind Institute in 2006, and completed my second 500-hour Matwork and Apparatus Comprehensive Instructor Certification through Balanced Body in 2019. I also completed the Trifecta Institute’s Trauma-Informed Pilates Certification in 2019.

I completed my teaching apprenticeship under second-generation instructor Justine diCostanzo in 2007 in NYC.

Experience

Since I first began teaching in New York City in 2006, I have acquired over 6,000 hours of studio teaching experience on Gratz, Peak, Balanced Body, and Stott equipment.
